The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2: A Superb Mechanical Capability

In 2018, Chevrolet introduced a new variant to the family of its mid-size Colorado pickup, the ZR2. The latter had greatly impressed the automotive press and everyone who had the chance to get behind the wheel. Now Chevrolet is back at it again with the addition of a ZR2 variant to its full-size Silverado model.

Find out more about the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2’s mechanics, chassis features, capabilities and freshly updated interior.

ZR2 Silverado Mechanics: A Proven V8

First, let’s settle the question regarding the engine that is dedicated to this variant. It’s the company’s/manufacturer’s 6.2-liter V8, an absolutely brilliant engine that offers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. And rest assured that all the horsepower is there when you step on the gas.

A 10-speed automatic transmission, which masterfully handles all the power that’s thrown at it, sends power to the wheels at lightning speed. And speaking of wheels, they’ll be fitted with Goodyear Wrangler Territory off-road tires that are going to be 33 inches tall. Nothing will stand up to them.

One important detail, though; the 2022 Chevy Silverado ZR2 isn’t here to compete with the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram 1500 TRX of this world, models that play the power card more than anything else, even if they do offer enhanced off-road skills.

The new Silverado ZR2 is there to meet the needs of those who want more off-roading and want the best solution to meet their expectations. In fact, its ride is exceptional, as Motor Trend reporter X confirms:

In the dirt, the the Silverado ZR2 acquits itself well in both trail riding through technical sections and at speed with that big V-8 power, accurate steering, and strong brakes.”

New Silverado ZR2: Solid Underpinnings

The ZR2 version of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado is built on the Trail Boss model. The latter already benefits from a two-inch higher suspension to allow it to clear obstacles more easily.

With the ZR2 model, the whole thing is raised by half an inch for even more capability. In addition, there are features that set it apart from the rest of the lineup such as:

  • A redesigned front bumper allowing for a 31.8 degree approach angle
  • Visible(red) tow hooks on the bumper
  • A different hood
  • A distinct grille

As for the body configuration, it will consist of a double cab. However, there will be two body lengths to choose from, either the short or standard body.

2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2: Significant Capabilities

The heart of this new ZR2 version, however, is under the vehicle. In fact, is based on the Multimatic DSSV (Dynamic Suspensions Spool Valve) shocks that equip this model. These Canadian-designed shocks have proven themselves in various racing series, including IndyCar, where as soon as they were introduced in the early 2000s, the team that used them (Newman-Hass) won the championship.

Finally, with this model, it will be possible to tow 9000 pounds and carry 1440 pounds in the body. Above all, it will be possible to go where no other vehicle of its kind can go. The new Silverado ZR2 has a very promising technical file. Here’s what you can expect by the numbers:
