Everything You Need to Know About the 2.7L Turbo Engine

Chevrolet has been using its 2.7L Turbo 4-cylinder engine in many of its trucks for a few years now. However, for the first year the 2023 Colorado will be equipped with one.

A Reinvented Engine for the New Chevrolet Truck

This is not the first year that Chevrolet Canada offers its 2.7L Turbo 4-cylinder engine in its vehicles. It’s noteworthy, however, to mention that the engine offered in next-generation Chevrolet trucks is not exactly the same one the manufacturer has offered since its introduction.

The new version of this engine introduced in 2019 features a better cylinder block casting and a crankshaft that is about 30% stiffer.

More specifically, this is what allows this new generation to offer better durability and longevity to the engine, which is always welcome.

In addition, the performance of the Chevrolet 2.7L Turbo improves slightly each year. For example, the latest generation generates about 20% more engine torque than the previous generation.

A 2.7L Turbo Engine with Three Variants for the 2023 Colorado

GMC’s 2.7L Turbo 4-cylinder engine has already proven itself in other Chevrolet trucks, like the Silverado. Its appearance in the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado, however, marks the first time it has been featured in this truck model.

Across the five versions of the 2023 Colorado, there are three different performance variants for this new engine:

• The 2.7L Turbo is standard for the WT and LT.
• The 2.7L Turbo Plus is standard for the Z71 and Trail Boss, but is also available as an option for the two previous versions.
• The 2.7L Turbo High Output comes with the ZR2 and is only available for this version of the vehicle.

So, while the difference between the Turbo and Turbo Plus is quite large, the difference between the Turbo Plus and Turbo High Output is a bit more subtle.

However, enthusiasts are sure to appreciate the nearly 10% increase in torque from the high-output engine, which will provide better acceleration and a more comfortable driving experience.

It should also be noted that for those interested in the Chevrolet Colorado towing capacity of, it will be important to consider the Plus version of the engine.

The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Compared to Its Predecessors

It’s important to note that, even when compared to the three engines available for the 2022 Colorado, the 2.7L Turbo engine still stands out.

In fact, even the base variant offers 18% more power than the 2022 Colorado base engine, which is a 2.5L engine. And if we have a look at the 2022 Colorado 3.6L and 2.9L Turbodiesel engines instead, the higher-performance variants of the 2.7L Turbo continue to offer better performance.

Consequently, with its three variants of the same engine, the 2023 Colorado is able to outperform its direct predecessor, which offered instead three different engines.

Additional Information About the 2023 Colorado

Of course, the engine isn’t the only difference we perceive in the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado.

Briefly, considering the technology available to the driver we find:

• An all-new 11.3-inch center screen designed to enhance the driving experience.
• Hitch Guidance system now included in all Colorado vehicles.
• Several systems available to help with road awareness and safe driving.

It is however important to note that the 2023 Colorado only offers one body configuration. In fact, the new model only offers a double cab and short body configuration.

But even if the external configuration is rigidly fixed, the 2023 Colorado has, according to the Car Guide review:
